I got my first taste of New York when I spent a summer studying jazz at the Manhattan School of Music as a junior in high school. Suffice it to say that I saw and heard a lot of things in Manhattan that I had never experienced at home in Iowa. After that incredible summer I knew I would be living in New York at some point in my life.

Since I moved out to New York, I have worked at the Edison Recording Studios in Manhattan, freelanced in wedding/club bands, and taught private music lessons. I was enjoying the opportunity to play in different bands around Long Island, but I wanted to play in something a little more, how should I say, more……..exciting! Luckily, I came home from teaching one night and had a message from Brian Chabza asking me if I would be available to play a gig with Ants Marching. I was like, “Hell Yeah!!” Anyway, I worked my ass off learning DMB songs and one week later I was playing with this tight band and having a great time.

I earned my B.A. in Music at the University of Northern Iowa where I studied with Tom Barry, Robert Washut, and Matt Wilson. While at the University of Northern Iowa I received an award for Outstanding Performance in Collegiate Jazz Band category from Downbeat magazine.
